Safety tips
Most people on IceBreaker are just looking for good company. Still, meeting someone you don't know takes a little care. Here's what we recommend.
Before you meet
- Look at their profile properly. Photos, bio and interests should feel consistent. If something seems off, trust your instinct — you can always pass.
- Keep personal details to yourself. Don't share your home address, workplace, financial information or ID until you know someone well.
- Never send money. No genuine person you've just met needs money, gift cards or crypto from you. Report anyone who asks.
- Tell a friend. Let someone know who you're meeting, where and when. Share your live location with a friend you trust.
When you meet
- Meet in a public place. A busy café, bar, park or gallery — not someone's home, and not a secluded spot.
- Get there and back on your own. Stay in control of how you arrive and leave.
- Know your limits. Watch your drink, never leave it unattended, and stay aware of how much you're drinking.
- Leave whenever you want. You don't owe anyone your time. If you feel uncomfortable, it's fine to go — ask staff for help if you need it.
Sharing your location
- When you're online, others nearby see an approximate position (rounded to about 100 m), never your exact spot.
- Sharing your location inside a chat sends your precise position to that one person. Only do it when you're ready to meet — ideally from the public place you're meeting at.
- You can go offline at any time and you'll disappear from the map straight away.
If something goes wrong
- In an emergency, call 112 (the EU emergency number) or local emergency services.
- Block anyone who makes you uncomfortable: from their profile or your chat with them, choose Block. You won't see each other again, pending hi's are cancelled, your chat closes, and they aren't told.
- Report anyone who breaks our Community Guidelines. Reports are confidential and we aim to review them within 24 hours.
